OffRaid Studio · Roadbook
Turn any GPX into a roadbook with tulips, in minutes.
Open your route in OffRaid Studio and press Roadbook. It reads the roads along the way, draws a tulip at every junction where you have a choice and fills in distances, landmarks and dangers. You check it, fix what is needed and download it as OpenRally GPX or a printable PDF.
How it works
From GPX to roadbook in three steps
Open your route
Drop a GPX, KML, GeoJSON, TCX or FIT file in OffRaid Studio, or plan a new route on the map.
Press Roadbook
Studio reads the roads along the route and makes the boxes: total and partial distance, a tulip with the road you come from, the way to go and every other branch, and notes.
Check and download
Go through the boxes, change anything, then download the roadbook for your roadbook app, your GPS or the roll holder.
Found for you
What it puts in the roadbook by itself
Junctions and branches
Every junction where you have a choice, with the type of each branch, roundabouts and hairpins. A box at every junction, or only where it is needed.
Landmarks on the tulip
Buildings, churches, shrines, cemeteries, trees, antennas, tanks and ruins next to the junction, drawn where they really are.
Villages, bridges, tunnels
Entering and leaving villages, bridges, tunnels with their length, streams and rivers, level crossings and traffic lights.
Gates and obstacles
Gates, cattle grids, barriers, speed bumps, water crossings, rough surface and 4x4-only roads, from OpenStreetMap.
Terrain
Steep climbs and descents, blind crests, dips, drops on the left or right and series of bends, from elevation data.
Road and fuel
Road numbers and names, end of asphalt, against one-way, keep left or right, and fuel stations near the route.

Change anything, box by box
Tulips
Drag a branch to turn it, add or remove branches, change the road type and the way to go.
Notes and symbols
Write your notes, add symbols and a danger level from 1 to 3.
Rally points
DSS, ASS, speed zones, time controls, waypoints, fuel, partial reset, CAP heading and coordinates, as the OpenRally format describes them.
Satellite view
See every junction from above, turned the way you arrive.
Street photos
See Mapillary street photos near a junction, where there are any.
Your work stays
The roadbook is kept with the route, so you can come back and carry on.

FAQ
Questions about the roadbook maker
Is the roadbook maker free?
Yes. It runs in your browser and you do not need an account. A free OffRaid account keeps your routes safe on our server, so you can open them from any computer.
Which countries does it cover?
Junctions are found wherever OffRaid has maps: more than 190 countries. Extra details such as gates and cattle grids come from OpenStreetMap, so they are as complete as the map is in that area.
Is the roadbook ready to ride as soon as it is made?
Treat it as a first draft. It is made from map data, which can be missing or out of date. It saves you hours, but check every box, on the ground if you can, before you use it on a ride or an event.
Which roadbook apps can open it?
Any app that reads OpenRally GPX, such as Rally Navigator reader, DMD2 and Rally Blitz, and the OffRaid app. For Garmin and Zumo there is a GPX with every box as a waypoint.
Can I print it for a roll holder?
Yes. Download the PDF in A5, the size of a roll holder, or in A4.
Can I start from a track I recorded?
Yes. Open the GPX, KML, GeoJSON, TCX or FIT file. If it has straight lines that cut across the road, the GPX check in Studio puts them back on the road first.
What leaves my computer?
Your route file stays in your browser. To build the roadbook, Studio asks map services (our maps and OpenStreetMap) for the area around the route. Satellite images and street photos load only when you open them. Details are in the privacy policy.
